Azulene and chamomile

Chamomile flower water and a drop of natural blue are the idea behind the Azulene Soother line.

What it is

Chamomile is a small daisy-like flower that has been used in skin care for a long time. In the Azulene Soother line, SANTE uses chamomile flower water as the base of the formula, in place of plain water.

Azulene is the deep blue pigment that chamomile gives up when it is heated. SANTE explains that azulene is not simply extracted from chamomile: during steam distillation a compound called matricin changes into the deep blue chamazulene. That is why the gels and creams in this line are blue without any added dye.

The form used in the products is guaiazulene, listed on the pack as “Guaiazulene”. SANTE uses oil-soluble guaiazulene in creams, balms and gels, and a water-soluble form of azulene in toners, ampoules and waters.

What skin it suits

The Azulene Soother line is made for skin that feels dry, hot or easily upset, and for people who want a simple, comforting routine. SANTE describes it as hydration and soothing first. The light gel and lotion suit warmer days and oilier skin. The cream suits skin that feels tight in winter.
